July 2018 Election
After a long month of little national activity, few were surprised at Harker's victory in the July 2018 election. He won by invoking the same clause he had invoked in June, as he had tied 2-2 with Mistelbacher's Anarcho-Communists. This time, however, he felt little sympathy for the outraged voters, and lead on. He created the Equestrian Centaur (EQC), Equestria's currency, and deployed the military on their first overseas mission as Equestrian Forces Finland.

Congress remained firmly in the Democratic Party's control, but the remaining political parties banded together to form a coalition opposition. Unfortunately, their ideologies were too radically different for them to come into any agreements.
July 2018 Election Results
Civil War
On 10 July 2018 at the Equestrian Embassy to Canada, an insurgency group lead by one Matteo Scrofano lead a violent assault on President Harker and his security detail at what would come to be known as the Battle of the Embassy.

In the early hours of the afternoon, Scrofano's insurgents lead an assault on Harker. The Naval Diving Corps responded immediately and a battle continued. The fight ended in a stalemate forcing Scrofano's forces out of Equestrian territory. Harker called for immediate military intervention and declared martial law, but by the next day the Supreme Court had struck down the order.

That same day on 10 June Harker departed on official business for Ottawa, hoping to meet Prime Minister Trudeau to discuss Canadian intervention. Unfortunately, Harker's case was disregarded.

The Cool Party
Harker's handling of the civil war was regarded as poor by Congress and the public. To the people, Harker had cheated elections, misused resources, and was now failing to keep his own people safe. The people were unhappy, and with the overall failure of the EQC, Equestria faced a major recession. All of this changed on 22 July 2018 when the Cool Party came to be.

Grant Macmillan, chairman of the Cool Party, promised to fix all of the problems facing Equestria by strengthening the military, mending the economy, and resolving national debt. He also promised to abolish national taxation. This made him immensely popular in early polls, and on 1 August 2018, Harker's Democratic Party lost control for the first time in the nation's history.
Macmillan's patriotism made him popular with voters.
